Crudo Exhibition at ATC Agencia de Tránsitos Culturales

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, December 2017

In “Crudo”, Gabriel Roca (Tenerife) presents a collection of his works in black sand. “Crudo” explores ground extractions, industrial processes, material relationships, transport, and limitations. Roca’s black sand series draws on his work with biologists, geologists and meteorologists and offers a granular investigation of material transformations. Hinting at glass fabrication and digital representations, he uses Tenerife’s black sand to construct a dynamic view of a natural commodity that is not as infinite as it seems.

“Crudo” is the first segment in Basic Research at ATC, an ongoing initiative that provides a platform for the cultivation and presentation of projects that embody the fundamental pursuit of knowledge. Designed to bridge abstract research and and everyday experience, Basic Research at ATC  facilitates meaningful encounters between architects, artists, writers and scientists.
